Guidelines for Borrowing and Lending Special Collections Materials soliciting final comments

“Dear colleagues:

The ACRL Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) Task Force for the Guidelines for Borrowing and Lending Special Collections Materials is soliciting final comments on the draft guidelines, ACRL/RBMS Guidelines for Interlibrary and Exhibition Loan of Special Collections Materials.

The Task Force has been working for the past year and a half to review, update, and revise the 2004 revision of the ACRL Guidelines for the Interlibrary Loan of Rare and Unique Material (http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/acrl/standards/rareguidelines.cfm) and the 2005 Guidelines for Borrowing and Lending Special Collections Material for Exhibition (http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/acrl/standards/borrowguide.cfm). The new draft guidelines combine these two documents into a single set of principles and guidelines for borrowing and lending special collections materials.

The Task Force has held public hearings and disseminated earlier drafts and now seeks commentary on its current draft in advance of final review at the ALA Annual meeting on  June 24-27, 2011.

The draft is available in PDF format from the RBMS website at:     http://new.rbms.info/?q=node/69

Please send any comments by May 1, 2011, to task force chair Hjordis Halvorson at halvorsonh@newberry.org.

For more background on the task force, its charge and earlier drafts, please see:   http://rbms.info/committees/task_force/borrowing/index.shtml

Thank you in advance for your attention and input.
Christian Dupont (task force member)”
