Collaborations, alliances, and mergers, oh my

This report, “Collaborations, alliances and mergers in higher education: Lessons learned and guidance for institutions,” was recently published by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).  While it doesn’t really address collaboration in library environments, it may be of use to many who work in higher education environments.  The report notes that collaborations, alliances and mergers (CAM):

activities have long been an important feature of the higher education (HE) landscape, but in spite of this, relatively little is generally known about the subject. We therefore conducted this study to help the HE sector learn from institutions’ past experience and improve the likelihood of success when collaborations, alliances and/or mergers are entered into. The guidance set out in this report is intended to be helpful and informative, and not directive or prescriptive.
