RUSA/STARS Interlibrary Loan Discussion Group program

“If you are attending ALA Midwinter in Dallas our please join us for our RUSA/STARS Interlibrary Loan Discussion Group program, Saturday, January 21, from 10:30-12 in Omni Dallas Hotel-Trinity 3 (Session URL: http://alamw12.scheduler.ala.org/node/616).

On tap, we have two terrific speakers sharing knowledge and expertise in two timely areas of resource sharing operations  We’ll then engage in informal discussions concerning topics of interest to you.  First, Bethany Sewall from the University of Denver will present “100% Document Delivery:  What to do when your collections are ALL off-site .”  Bethany will discuss how the University of Denver’s Penrose library has continued and plan to continue to provide ILL and Document Delivery services while ALL of our materials are stored 10 miles away in the UD’s Hampden Center Annex.

Then, Tina Baich from the Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis will present “Opening Interlibrary Loan to Open Access: Locating and Managing Borrowing Requests for Open Access Materials,” a reprise of her excellent ILSD 2011 Chicago presentationEven though open access materials are freely available on the internet, library users still request them through interlibrary loan. In 2009, IUPUI University Library began tracking borrowing requests for open access materials. As the number of requests filled with open access documents continues to grow, IUPUI University Library is able to provide a service to users and cost savings for the library by utilizing this material. In this presentation, Tina will discuss the data regarding IUPUI University Library open access borrowing requests and demonstrate some of the most commonly used online resources for locating open access materials.

Finally, in keeping with past discussion group formats, we’ll also engage in informal question and answer session on topics of your choosing.  Past topics include Copyright, Managing Textbook Requests, International ILL,  and ILL/Acquisitions & Staffing Philosophies.

If you’d like a particular topic discussed, including reprises of topics past, please let me know via phone or email.

Thanks and hope yours is a great 2012.
